91 Supreme Brake light problem

Hi all I seem to be having a problem with my brake lights for some odd reason.
I had some one press the brake peddle when I was at the rear of the car and both main brake lights are not lighting up other than the one that is located on the trunk lid. I have replaced all four light bulbs, checked the fuses and have also tried tracing the wires up to the dash but have not yet found what is causing the problem.I have thought that it might be a lose conection some where down the line but I have tried moving the conections but still nothing.
I am stumpt does anyone got or know what might be causing this problem?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Re: 91 Supreme Brake light problem

I have an 89 supreme and the right break light doesnt come on sometimes. I have tracked it down to the ground wire on the turn signal switch. When I press the turn signal switch forward or move the ground wire the break light will come on.

Re: 91 Supreme Brake light problem

Look around the brake pedal. You'll see where a switch is activated by pressing the brake pedal. It could be a white looking plastic case with a button on it that of course gets pressed in, completing the circuit. This will most likely be your problem. I am assuming your car will have it.
If you know how to use a multimeter, set it to OHMS. remove the switch and connect the leads across it, with the button pressed you should see a resistance value, or hear an audible beep for continuity. If no reading when button depressed, you've confirmed your bad switch. Knowing its probably the switch is one thing, but confirmation is another.
Your tool merchant can teach you to use a multi meter in about 5 minutes if you dont know how. let us know what you find... very interested.
