Tuning

Anyone have an idea what the price is on a tuning machine/kit or whatever it is? I'm thinking of buying one if it's not that much, since my brother in law does a lot of work for people on their imports and I figure I can more than make my money back with it. Also looking for sites that might have them for sale. Thanks.

Re: Tuning

You mean a dyno? That measures torque and horsepower. To actually tune cars you need a computer, some kind of tuning software, a chip burner and a wideband O2. Check these links out:

Re: Tuning

A good dyno will cost you roughly (could be quite a bit less or a little more) $80,000+. A friend of mine and his landlord are going to buy one for next summer and they plan to spend around $180,000 for a AWD Mustang one. Of course they're also going to buy attachments for motorcycles and snowmobiles, and they live down the road from a 1/4 mile track; so they'll make that $ back in a year and a half.

And then you need to think about the engine management systems you're going to be dealing with, the cost of training to be able to do tuning correctly.

Re: Tuning

to put it simply, its going to cost a shitload....i've seen used Dyno Jet dynos for sale for as little as $15k, but they only go up in price from there. You're also going to need a good wideband, liscensing for all of the software you're going to tune, datalogging cables, a good laptop, chip burner, etc, etc, etc and the most important part of all....experience
