Idling Arm/pitman Arm Replacement 94 Silverado

I wrote earlier about my rotor being warped. Well, because of this the pitman arm and idling arm on my 94 silverado need replaced before it can pass inspection. Is this something that can be done at home? They want to charge me 167.00 to fix. that includes 100.00 for labor. not bad I guess but , can I do it myself with little trouble. I'd rather get dirty and spend a little money than. What do you think? thanks. Also, does anyone have any pics of what one should look like, new? thanks gain.

This is a very cheap price, let them do it, the pitman arm can sometimes be tough to remove.

I'm in need of this too. That price is really cheap the place I went to quoted me $400 to replace both of those and the inner tie rod on the right side. They said they would use moog parts as well. does that sound like a fair deal?

That's a great price! If it's a 4WD changing the pitman arm is a real chore. You have to drop the steering box to do it

I agree with maxwedge on this. You don't mention if you have a C or a K; however, for the K, you need to unbolt the steering box and rotate it to remove the pitman arm (which can be a royal pain to do).

A pitman arm puller is also handy tool to have when doing this job so you need to factor than into the price if you do it yourself (usually can be rented).

Another thing to consider is that it will need an alignment after this. If they do the work, you do not have to worry about driving it with the alignment off.

Ahhhhhhh yes I would let them do it in a heart beat because after all the swinging of that BFHammer all those misses and your knuckles are the size of and the color of plums having to run here to borrow a pitman arm puller then hitting yourself in the head with the BFHammer and finally having to drive it unaligned somewhere to be lined up. Sounds like a deal to me.

Yeah mine is 4wd. The alignment after was extra so it'd be about 450 parts and labor. sorry not trying to steal post from the op

I did mine myself... If I had the money I would let someone else do it.
The parts are not cheep and If you do not have an impact wrench, puller, and air chisle with a pickle fork attachment. I would say you are in trouble.
