a different distorted sub question

well a little info about my system would probably be a first priority. I have 2 12 inch 550 watt massive subs. and a 1200 watt infinity amp. the subs used to sound really nice, even when it was hooked up to a crappy little 200 watt amp. but i bought the amp used and it finally crapped out on me and quit working. when it did my speakers started sounding incredibly distorted. they still look fine, they dont look damaged at all. no cracks or holes. well i bought a new amp, hoping it would cure the problem. this is the infinity amp that I have now. but unfortunately it did not they still sound very distorted. is it possible that when the old amp died that it damaged something in my subs? does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

my guess would be they are blown.

maybe a power surge when your old amp crapped out or somethin?

massive emailed me back a lot sooner than i expected, they said it could be burnt out voice coils, i need a multimeter to check impendence on the voice coils. any idea how i do that or how much a multimeter is? will replacing the coils be worth it, or should i jus get new speakers. i been thinkin bout getn some clarions anyway, i jus didnt wanna do it so soon, ive had these less than a year

a multimeter at walmart is like $20 ... a VERY good thing to have around when doing install stuff. You set the multimeter to read ohms on the "20" setting, a 4 ohm speaker should read appx 3 ohms (2.8 - 3.4)
