1995 Rodeo V6 3.2
Well, after changing my Alternater belt and removed the squeek life was good. but all of a sudden I hear horrible noises coming from the engine bay. I thought I had just snapped the belt but when I got home I noticed the Alt belt and the A/C belt in a twist. Then I decided to look under the truck and noticed what looked like a piece of plastic (a half ring shape and the Crank pully was not lined up as if the pully had slid off a sleeve. 1. Has anyone had this happen to them ? 2. How do you remove the crank pully to fix it ? |

Re: Had alternater belt too tight !!!
Not exactly sure what happned there... But, If you are going to remove the crank pully I would recommend removing the fan, then you will probably want to remove the fan mount, this will give you access to the pulley... Then you have to loosen the bolt, which is not easy... Large socket with an extensions, preferably 1/2 inch drive. I used a funky clamp on the pulley to grab the metal behind the belt grooves to hold pulley from starting... Others have talked about putting the wrench on the bolt and the handle close to the frame, then, touching the starter which will turn the engine and loosen the nut... If you do that I would either take the plug wires off of the plugs or somehow disconnect the coil so the engine does not start in the process. Never done the starter process but it sounds like it would work.... Try at your own risk!

Re: Had alternater belt too tight !!!
Dont know if your truck has a harmonic balancer but thats what it sounds like it is, the HB self destructed. It can happen sometimes.
I've always used the starter method for removing crank bolts. Much easier. But, as stated, disable the ignition so it wont start.

Re: Had alternater belt too tight !!!
is this the same problem that was posted someplace recently that got the answer that it was crankwalk ?
if not, look around here and/or at www.4x4wire.com , www.planetisizoo.com or maybe it was itog? {{{EDIT ADD: found the thread. it's a 97 rodeo auto with a 3.2 v-6. maybe this applies to you, too: http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewto...ight=crankwalk end edit add }}} i've never heard or experienced your problem or that guy's, so maybe it's worth your time to look for it. (sorry i can't rembember where or the post title but crankwalk or crankwalking or somesuch was in one of the replies hth //bc

Re: Had alternater belt too tight !!!
Well, I read the other thread and hopefully mine is not that bad since I cut it off immediately when it happened. Has the pulley slipped off on anyone else? Is it a DIY ?
