Another 2002 transmission question
I have another transmission question. I own a 2002 Odyssey with 43,000 miles. For the last 4-5 months, the transmission has been acting funny (searching for gears) while cruising. Does not always happen and have not been able to determine if being cool or hot makes a difference. Might happen more once warmed up. On one day it was happening a lot, I was slowing down at an intersection and had to make a lane change in heavy traffic. I stepped on the accelerator to make my lane change and the only thing that happened was the engine RPM increased but not forward motion. The TCS and engine light came on and the D (drive) indicator started flashing. I pulled to the shoulder and shut the car off. Restarted the car and the TCS was not lit and the D stopped flashing. The engine light was still on. Got to a Honda dealer and had them read the code. It indicated the speed sensor had seen an unreal value. Transmission still hesitates. Does any of this have to do with the EGR problems others have had? Can the EGR be bad and still not send any trouble codes? Thanks for your suggestions. Brian

Re: Another 2002 transmission question
I'm confused. So, you went to a dealer and they read the code. Did they conduct a diagnosis?

Re: Another 2002 transmission question
The incident that set the code was while I was out of state on vacation. I found a dealer so I could see if I had a serious problem and to get rid of the engine light beaming at me. This happened back in July. I will be going to the dealer on the 25th for a full diagnostic. My main fear is that the transmission will not miss perform for them and the hole thing will be a waist of time and money. The problem is intermittent, but at times feels like the transmission will quit at any moment. The last couple of weeks have been trouble free.

Re: Another 2002 transmission question
alot of times you can get what they call flare up. Its when the car is decelling and you get back on the gas. Its almost like the car is just starting to downshift then when you get on the gas it doesn't know if it should so the rpm flares up alittle and the car gets into the right gear.
The EGR is usually more noticeable at steady light throttle around 40 mph or so. It almost feels as if the car is bucking back and forth.

Re: Another 2002 transmission question
Agree. The EGR problem cars feel like they are always running out of gas.
