Re: help

Then maybe that's not where it's leaking from.

Re: help

In addition to installing a new valve cover gasket, you also need to use FIPG - Toyota's "form in place gasket" material where the round portion at the cams meets the flat. On the four cylinder engine that results in a total of four locations including both sides of the two camshafts. If you substitute something else, make certain it is safe for oxygen sensors. The acetic acid released during cure of silicone sealer will destroy an oxygen sensor by entering in the port open to atmosphere.
Try a spray can of Berryman B-12 Chemtool for cleaning off residual oil seepage, then look with a shop light to see if you have a leak originating elsewhere.
On the valve cover it is not uncommon to also replace the grommets on top along with the valve cover gasket, if needed.
Could also be distributor "O" ring or front engine oil seals. Might also want to check the PCV grommet, although if it is leaking it tends to be hardened and brittle enough to break into pieces that can fall into the opening, so I prefer to change it when the valve cover is off so I can hold it upside down while removing. That way any little pieces fall to the ground instead of inside the engine.
