1988 Silverado car stereo installation. Need help.
I have a 1988 Silverado and im trying to put a cd player in it. I think that your supposed to pull the tape player out and put the cd player where the tape player was. Right above the drink holder. I Took the tape player and the stereo out ( 2 seperate units) but the wires seem to go inside of the stereo and tape player. My question is should I just cut them? or is there a harness that disconnects somewhere further down? These silverados came with a stereo (next to the instrament cluster and a seperate tape player.
So whats the standard way for installing a cd player in these trucks? Thanks for the help.

Re: 1988 Silverado car stereo installation. Need help.
The wiring harness can be unplugged behind the dash. Just trace the wires back under the dash. There are a number of stereo install kits that include an adapter that just plugs into that stock plug to aid installation. Check any of the major websites or even a local BestBuy/Circuit City etc.

Re: 1988 Silverado car stereo installation. Need help.
The wiring harness goes to the head unit and then there is a separate harness that goes from the head unit to the tape unit.
When I installed a CD play on my 90 K1500, I got a kit with the CD player from www.crutchfield.com. The kit included a wiring adapter (no need to cut any wires), a CD pocket (where the head unit was) and a new trim piece so that CD looks factory. This may help: http://www.installer.com/cars/chevrolet.html I can post a picture if you want to see how mine turned out. //2000CAYukon |
