Angry dead priZm

my 02 prizm, 5 speed, 49k miles, bought new, meticulously maintained, died on me the other day while accelerating to merge onto the interstate. it lost all power at 3500 rpm and refused to start again. it seems to be getting fuel because it almost starts-then just dies and continues to turn over. it's now at the chevrolet dealer awaiting diagnosis. anyone have any ideas?
