need help: resonator for 200sx

i've got a 98 200sx, and the resonator has a little crack, so i have to replace it to pass safety inspection (just bought the car) its bolted to the headers but appears to be welded to the catback (not sure my terminology is right, but the pipe that goes from the resonator to the muffler, do i have to weld the new resonator in place, or will i have to buy one already attached to the pipe, or am i missing somthing (prolly have to weld but...) how do i remove the old weld, and is there anything else i need to know, the weld looks pretty thick, my welds are usually much thinner, will that matter? also does anyone have measurments or info on the resonator, i wanna double check my measurments, thx

Re: need help: resonator for 200sx

you will have to cut it out and weld in a new one. i know the exhaust place i go uses the torch from the welder to cut stuff out (i also know you're not supposed to do this) but im not sure what kind of welder you have. you might just have to get a hack saw.
