Transmission problems

I have a 2000 Z71 with the 4L60E tranny, the last couple of days it's been action funky. When driving away from a stand still it's like the tranny won't catch, if I finaly get it up to speed like 40 mph it works fine, just driving away in D or 3 is almost impossible. If I put it in second I can take of normaly.
Anyone know what causes this ? I checked the fluid level which is fine.

Bert

Re: Transmission problems

Does it feel like the tranny is slipping? If so, do not drive it. Or does it feel like it is starting in the wrong gear?

Wrong gear starts can be a shift solenoid or the actuator feed limit valve (http://www.transmissionspecialty.com...77754-09K.htm).

You should also have it scanned for codes which may help pinpoint what is failing on the tranny.

Good luck,

It might. Slipping would feel more like the tranny is in neutral (RPM goes up but the truck is not moving). Wrong gear starts would but an extra load on the engine (which can also make noises).

Re: Transmission problems

How many miles? These do not have a reputation for being particularly strong or long-lived transmissions.

Since the 700R4 (your trans is similar with more electronics) was introduced, average driving and maintenance will yield about 150,000 miles tops. I've had three trannies in 390,000 miles and the original only made it to 85,000, just out of warranty! Best rebuilt made it to 215,000. I'm now trying to set a new record with Redline D4 ATF (10 bucks a quart).

Re: Transmission problems

133,000 miles? Hope it's been serviced 3-4 times since new. With synthetic ATF I do it once a year (30,000 miles). If you wait 'til 50,000 you're asking for trouble.
