1993 Suburban 1500, no start

I am looking at buying a nice '93 Suburban. The car's body is in good shape as is the interior. However, it will not start. The guy is asking $1000 and says all the car needs is a battery. With a jump, the car turns over fine but will not run. When it does run, it will not stay running. The gas tank and fuel lines are new. My friend ran the car out of gas the first time we looked at it, so we had to get more gas and thought the problem might be cause we ran it out of gas and the lines were dry. The car has been sitting for a while. It could be a good deal if it only ran! Can any one help out the situation.

sounds like the battery is so bad it will not run with a jump. i would try a new battery first before going any further with repairs. also check charging out put for proper voltage. good luck.
