transmission question

First question, rpm ranges (vr-4 or rt/tt only)? For the first and second gens, what are you rpm's at when your doing about 75? Also how hard would it be to find a 2nd gen tranny and put it in a 1st gen car, and how much would a new one cost? Does anyone know? Are stealth and 3000gt trannys similar enough to use in each other? How hard would it be?

Thanks in advance, kyle

Re: transmission question

At 75 I believe it would be a bit shy of 3k rpms (about 2.7krpms). As for 3000gt and Stealth tranny's, they are the exact same according to level of trim ect, ect. And if you are planning on putting a 2nd gen tranny into a first gen you will need a new harness. Costwise, it depends if your looking at a rebuilt or a used. It should be upwards of $1200 I would say assuming it is in good working condition.

Re: transmission question

yea, 5spd turbo is around 2.7 like he said, 6spd turbo is around 2k. There more detailed into on this subject if you look on www.stealth316.com.

also, for the conversion, i believe you will need a rear end too, as the final gear is different. And, dont forget about the t-case and i believe the 6spd driveshaft is a bit shorter too, so youll need one of those.

Why do you wanna do a swap anyway?

Re: transmission question

Because I am looking at a limit on my price range, and I was woundering if it would be cheaper to buy a 92 or 93 slightly modded or stock and put a six speed in it or to just buy a 94. Hope that answers your question.

Re: transmission question

just buy a 94, it would be cheaper than buying all the extra parts to drop in a 6spd. plus, with a 2nd gen car you get the rock solid transfercase.

Re: transmission question

before you go and start transfering parts to make it a 6 speed you also need the 6 speed diff's. and the 6 speed TC and pretty sure you need the 6 speed drive shaft. Alot of work when the 5 speed is better for the 1/4th anyways.
