'79 won't start....?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I came back from a business trip of 4 months and tried to start my '79 Z28. At the first turn of the key, it fired right up but struggled a little bit during idle. So I changed the oil and flushed the radiator fluid. Now it won't start. The battery charge is good because the starter cranks hard, strong, and constant and not sluggish, i took off the air filter so there will be definite air flow for combustion, i tried the starter fluid spray 3 times, and the fuel pump is good. I was thinking it would be the spark plug or ignition coil. If so, what's a good way to do an operational check. I also thought about the distributor. I was told that maybe the car is misfiring, if so, how do I adjust it? Any other problems you guys could think of or suggestions? Thanks!

Re: '79 won't start....?

while your trying to start it push the pedal to the floor and hold it for a little. and look to see if there is gas squirting into the carb when the pedal is pushed, you should see it squirt. its carb right??? if it is timing you loosen the bolt on the clamp down bracket on the manifold and spin the distributer- tiny turns make a big difference. if you turn it more then an 8th thats way far. you could try turning it a little each direction and trying to start it. might want to mark where the distributer initially was. remember just change it a tad, like an 1/8th an inch incriments

^^^Ditto^^^

Also, check the pickup coil assembly. I've had these fail on me more than once, even on the tow truck I used to drive.
