I just bought 89 bronco. on the way home it overheated, so i replaced the water pump after finding a hole in the bottom of it then it oveheated again after 15 miles so i found the thermastate was stuck closed, i pulled it out then it wouldnt start. after i towed it home I replaced the coil, and the modual thats on the distributer and now i have spark but the engine turns over real slow. It has a new battery and silonoide. I'm getting back fire whae its turning over so i know the timing is off but whats the problem with it turning over slow

Re: bronco wont start
Check the oil. I bet it has the consistency and color of a milkshake. (Hot Fudge, not chocolate.) You probably have a blown head gasket. Once you replaced the water pump-you let in all kinds of water/coolant into wherever the head gasket was bad. I'd say take off the heads, clean them, mill them, get a new set of gaskets.

Re: bronco wont start
I thought about that but the oil is a dark brown like its old oil not quite black I am going to try to jump it off another car and see if that helps with the slow turnover. If there is anything else that it could be i could use the help. thanks

Re: bronco wont start
Well, it sounds like, to me, you've done everything but replace the alternator. That could be your boggle. That's where the voltage regulator is, and it engages when you start the vehicle. Battery->Solenoid->coil->Alternator->Battery. If I recall correctly.

Re: bronco wont start
ok when replaced the piece on the distributor did u take it out? when timming is so far off one way the engine will free spin or in your case the other way it will turn over slow like it is hesitating right. try that and see what happens

Re: bronco wont start
That sounds about right. If your timing is way off it will cause slow turnover. Also check all wire going to starter, and at starter. If they are bad or really coroeded you will not get the full juice to the starter. But I would lean more to the timing.
