I have a 1999 alero with 135000 miles with the 3.4 v6. I was driving at 65 mph with my stereo and ac on and I suddenly heard a loud clanking noise coming from my engine. (it sounds like a lound engine knock.. really loud.) So I immediately turned my stereo off and air off to listen to the noise and it was gone.
I found that about 5-10 seconds after I turn on the air conditioning (i push the ac button and hear the ac engage and the sound gradually gets louder) the clanking becomes very loud. Does anyone have any idea what this is? |

Re: loud clanking noise when ac is turned on..
Yeah, don't run the A/C.. And it's not that bad without it...

Re: loud clanking noise when ac is turned on..
ok. well thanks! It would still be great to know what's going on if anybody has any ideas for me. A problem like that doesn't exactly up the resale value...

Re: loud clanking noise when ac is turned on..
Just go get your AC recharged, and let the techs figure it out...lol.
Something might just be loose...does the AC still work, just has a noise? |

I just thought of something else...try switch the ac between modes..floor, floor and front, front, defrost, ect and see what happens.
