Adding Vacuum Gauge

I made a similar post in the fuel economy forum about this, but figured I should post something here so maybe someone can tell me where to run the tube for this.

Anyway, I found http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...t=vacuum+gauge at JCW's web site. It says it comes with 72'' of tube, I'm assuming that means that there's a place in the back of the gauge where I put one end of the tube and then somewhere I stick the other end in a vacuum line?

What would be involved in installing this in my 01 Taurus? I have no idea where I would put it or where there are any holes in the firewall.

Re: Adding Vacuum Gauge

Yeah, they usually come with the 1\8" clear plastic tubing, same as the oil pressure gauge has,, uses compression fitting on back of gauge,, as far as running the line, sometimes you can use the big grommet thru the firewall near the steering column. Or the shift linkage, speedo cable, if applicable.. placement in the car pretty much where it can be seen and not in the way.. i see a few cars with the gauge package running up the pillar.. tee it into a manifold vacuum line, mine I hooked right to the vacuum tree, also I used 1\8" rubber vacuum line instead..

I took an engine bay pic. What would be a good location to tee in.

You can T into either the white or black line just behind the mount.

I don't see what lines you're talking about.

Re: Adding Vacuum Gauge

Just behind the top mount under the wiper cowl there is a black and a white vacuum line going to a little block. You can T into either of those. Both are manifold vacuum. They are on the passenger side just inside the strut tower.

Re: Adding Vacuum Gauge

I ended up sticking it behind the UIM. I found a vaccum line that was capped, so I tapped into it. I'm sure if someone needs to do diagnostic, it might cuase some problems. And we ended up running the vacuum line under the upper part of the drivers side fender so it comes out right by the mirror. With 15' of vacuum hose, I can put it anywhere.

We didn't use vacuum tubing the first time. Collapsed the tube and then melted it the first try.
