Rezing the Iroc? Not me

My dad calls me up today to tell me that my mom's brand new civic's powesteering pump already went. *laughs* I thought it was frickin funny. He also told me that he drained the tranny fluid in the Iroc and it was red. Joy? Not yet, but the transmission may still be salvageable. He's going to change the fluid and take it for a test drive. If he can fix the car, that's great! But if he can't that means it's the engine because it did the same thing with both transmissions. Not my problem right now. Thank you God.

Re: Rezing the Iroc? Not me

I just don't understand why both transmissions went. It must have been with the way I set it up, whether not the right amount of fluid in the pan or tc, or it was the throttle cable not adjusted, but it really pisses me off when i think about it. That's why I said I wouldn't mind another third gen but not this one.

Re: Rezing the Iroc? Not me

since you stuck all this money in it, just take it to a tranny shop and have it done right, just have it all rebuilt fresh so you KNOW what it has ben through.

Re: Rezing the Iroc? Not me

If you take it to a trans shop, don't talk about a rebuild just yet. Ask them to have a look at the governor, the gear on it is plastic

Re: Rezing the Iroc? Not me

When it goes back in make sure the tv cable or the kickdown cable is adjusted like it should be. If it's not it will fry the transmission. That could have been what caused failure of the other trans.

Okay, and replying to the others, I did tell my dad to have an expert look at it now since we don't want to really mess it up.

are you sure because my tv cable is blocked off. not hooked up to anything. there actually isnt a cable. it seems to work fine. except for the big trans leak out the bottom of the dipstick. but that sucks about the car, i guess it would be a good idea to have an expert check it out.

Yes, the TV cable controls line pressure to work with the throttle position. If it's too loose or not hooked up, line pressures will be too low and the clutch packs will eat it. One way to determine if the TV setting is too loose is the presence of a condition known as "short shifting" or "stack shifting". This is where the transmission goes through the gears fast, usually into 3rd gear before 15MPH. If this is occuring on your transmission, get that cable on there.

Only the TH200/C, 2004R and 700R4 have TV cables - if your car has a TH350, it will have a detent cable which controls part- and full-throttle downshifts, but does not have any other affect on the transmission.
