Sluggish 1995 Bonneville only when cold
I have only had this car for 3,000 miles (it has 155,000 on it). Ever since I bought it has has been sluggish for about the first 2 blocks of driving it. If I gradually push on the pedal I can tell there isn't much power but if I hold it to the floor it hesitates for a little bit then takes off. After it is warm and start it back up the problem isn't there. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Check the EGR valve, to see if it's stuck open. This would allow too much air into the engine when cold, messing up the air fuel ratio.

Check clean and/or replace the maps sensor. This is the senor that is housed between the air filter and throttle body. My car was doing the same. Mechanic said, that he removed the sensorand clean the connections. I notice the improvement right away. Just like new. awesome pickup

How can you tell if the valve is stuck open? I took it off when it was cold and the valve with the star on it was down but I was able to push it up with only the resistance of a spring. Is this supposed to move that easily when cold? Also after warming the engine up the valve looked and acted the same.

Dont want to pull you away from the EGR valve area check out. But is the ECT (Engine Coolant Temp) working properly.
I think the engine (PCM) is normally checking this and adjusting the mix trying to keep a little choked while cold. It may not be correct but may be a simple fix. Just a thought. Good luck

The temp gauge only gets up to around 150 I have never seen it at 200 but that is the way my '89 Bonni was so I didn't think nothing of it. Is this a normal operating range for the newer ones?
The hesitation is also there while the vehicle is in park and I step on the gas. Sorry for not saying this in the beginning. Last edited by jeffwall; 09-14-2006 at 02:41 PM.

I agree.. you need to determine whether its the Tstat or the sensor. Not sure but a new sensor may be easier than messing with the Tstat right now.
