Well..I'm 18 and i need a car. what's the best 3 grand can get me?

i'm just looking for something reliable...decent gas mileage (not below 15), and taht's about it. some pickup would be nice. i was really considering a civic, but they are so damn expensive. also looking at a 240sx, but they seem to be toos mall for me (i'm a tall guy). also looked at mkiii supras, but they tend to have problems that are cheap to fix only for mechanics...and i don't have the time or money to work on my car. so any suggestions?

Older Toyota pickups are pretty nice, and damn near indestructable, so you may want to take a look at some of those. If you want basic transportation for cheap, try pricing some Geo Prizims, they're identitcal to a Toyota Corolla but cost a bit less. Saturns SL1's are pretty good also, and are probably the cheapest of the bunch.

All of these cars give you well above 15 mpg.

My car, the 240 and that's not bias because I like it for a lot of reasons and hate it for others. Yeah it's small but not that small, plus the interior is really nice. Not sure how 'tall' you are but I'm 5'9 and it's no problem for me. It basically flies and it's reliable.

Well while you are waiting for the money get aquainted with the private party used car magazines.

Craigslist.com is also very valuable.

As a matter of fact, tell me what city you live in I can give you a quick take down of a few vehicles I think are interesting.

For used vehicles I only like japanese vehicles. I like the civic I like the corrolla prism but I like the nissan sentra and mazda protege better for what they cost.

Do you know how to drive stick? If you do only get stick.

Ok and if you want the project of buying a car from a private party, almost certainly ask for someone to help you look at the most interesting ones.

If one is ready to roll, perhaps pay a mobile mechanic 75 for a major flaw inspection.

I mean I can personally tell immediately if the transmission has problems or gasket leak. I wouldnt need to pay anyone. But can you do that?

being 18 and all you might space it.

i see you live in new york city.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/car/

ok well the first example i would look at is sep 4 99 mitsubishi galant

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/car/203056567.html

ok well I have no idea what it looks like but from here it sounds interesting.

Id plan on actually visiting at least 10 vehicles to buy one from a private party. So plan out 10 visits around the city. I can remember one vehicle search like this i visited 17 although most for me its like 4 or 5.

I dont think youre looking for a vehicle older than 96. Really for 3k shoot for 2000

ooo check this one out
