1997 740iL

My car is shaking really bad when I go about 45 to 50. Someone told me that I needed to get a front end alignment. Is that all I need??? I just spent $4000 getting both catalytic converters replaced and I don't want to have to spend another arm and a leg to get it fixed if it is serious...

Re: 1997 740iL

You do not say how many miles on the car but if is is at or over 70,000 miles I suspect the front, upper control arm (thrust) bushings are shot. The 45-55 mph shake is very common on our cars at higher mileage, and genrally points to those control arm bushings. Ihad this issue on my 1988 750 and replacing the bushings (a real PITA) solved my problem, I did opt for the urethane bushings in hopes they would last longer (time will tell, I am at 20,000 miles on the new bushings).
