I Need Help

I have a 72 nova.. My problem is the way the car handles while driving down the road... I have replaced all the body mounts, replaced the front sway bar with a 1.250 inch.. Switched the front springs out with custom made springs for a lighter front end... The springs i just put in it make the car sit higher then the ones i took out... The ones i took out were new stock size... The car just feels like the rear end is swaying back and forth while driving... Is there a such thing that you can go to big with the front sway bar??? Any help would be appericated...

Joe

Re: I Need Help

To rule out the sway bar, disconnect the links on both sides and take it for a ride. You'll know imediately whether it has helped, or not.

Your higher in the front attitude will shift weight towards the back of the car, how are the shocks and tires? You may want to take the front springs out and cut a coil or two out of them. The spring will be stiffer as a result, but the car will sit lower in the front and overall handling should improve.

Re: I Need Help

Adding the rear bar assembly from a T/A or Z/28 will help a lot. There are some minor fitment issues using the F-body rear bar in the X-body, but it fits. '74 GTO had it stock.

Re: I Need Help

How's the alignment on the front? Do you have too much negative camber?

Have you replaced the upper and lower ball joints?

What condition are the rear springs in? On my Nova they looked great, but the top
leaf was cracked through, but you couldn't see it as it was under the mounting pad.

Also, have you checked the alignment of the rear axle? A buddy of mine had a Camaro with
an issue similar to yours... we found that one of the alignment pins had sheered which allowed
the axle to shift on one side.

Just some thoughts!

Scott
