2000 Transmission Oil Filter Question

I recently purchased a 2000 Eclipse, V6, automatic transmission, with 95,000 miles. Since I purchased the car from an individual, I replaced the motor oil and transmission oil as I am not sure when they were last changed. In reference to the transmission oil, this particular model has an external transmission oil filter which I also replaced.

Herein lies my question. When I attempted to purchase the filter at my local auto parts store, their computer came up with a transmission pan gasket and internal filter kit. Does the Eclipse also have an internal transmission oil filter? If yes, when should it be replaced? I cannot find any reference to an internal filter in my Haynes manual.

Thank you in advance,
Greg

Re: 2000 Transmission Oil Filter Question

I'm interested in how the community replies to this. I had the same situation right before I left.

Btw, how much did you pay for your vehicle? Mine's the same model, just under 80k miles

Yeah I think its about time to change mine to so I'm interested to the answer too. Also I got a 2000 GT about 7 months ago with 39k for 12,000.

Re: 2000 Transmission Oil Filter Question

yes, it does have an internal filter. be carful when changing though. if it has a drain plug then good, if not then undue some of the bolts and let some of the fluid out and slowly drop the pan because it is full of fluid. taking those bolts off will be a little bit hard since they glue them on or something then screwed them. don't let anyone fool you and tell you to take to dealer, cost to much and don't go to bradzoil or something because they only vacuum the fluid out and won't drop the pan the change out the filter. best way is to do it your self. isn't hard but buy the kit. it should only come with the gastket and the filter. anymore questions just ask. i can give youa step by step too

Re: 2000 Transmission Oil Filter Question

Thanks..

The hobby shop I took it took said it required a gasket, but the part I ordered from Checkers back in January said that it didn't need one... I was kinda confuddled then...

Re: 2000 Transmission Oil Filter Question

What is the difference between getting a trans flush and dropping the trans pan and changing the oil and filter?

Re: 2000 Transmission Oil Filter Question

flush won't replace a dirty filter.

and flush's are for manuals, not autos

you need a gasket everytime you open up something that had a gasket on it originaly.

GET A GASKET
