Rear Blower

I did search and it looks like others have had this problem but I wanted to start a new thread as the other threads were old.

My Wife's rear blower stops working on occasion. I have fixed it 3 times. It is very easy to get to the blower. It seems that putting pressure on the connector at the motor temporarily makes contact and the blower will work for a while. I went a little futher and played with the contacts trying to bend them to make the fingers contact the spade posts on the motor a bit better and tighter. The cable connects to an intermediate connector that plugs into the motor. I seem to think there may be a bad connection on the motor itself or a break in the circuit within the motor itself. I need to get it out to have a better view. The motor is very easy to disconnect (and I am very impressed). There is a tab that one lifts and the motor rotates to release. The only problem is that the vacuum actuator is in the way. Is there an easy way to remove this actuator?

I will post the rest of my findings so that anyone else with this problem will be able to permanently repair theirs.

I managed to remove the blower assembly over the weekend to have a closer look. The vacuum actuator that is in the way is removed by releasing a tab below it. A flashlight made it obvious. The blower motor is removed by lifting the tab and rotating it counder clockwise.

I disconnected the main harness and removed the blower. I hooked up a continuity checker (DMM) and wiggled the intermediate connector and I noticed an intermittant connection. I removed the intermediate connector and the motor housing. I then saw the spade connectors that the intermediate connector contacts. There was no intermitant connections here. I tired wigling everything but it was a solid electrical connection. I concluded that the intermittance is between the intermediate connector and the motor spade terminals. I noticed that on of the spades was slightly bent out of shape. It seems that the fingers on the intermediate connector may not make good contaact if the spade is bent. I straightened the spade and put everything back together. I then bench tested with my meter and the intermittance was gone.

I don't know when the bend was introduced but I have had the van since new so it must have come from the factory like that.

Hi Greg,

Hopefully your blower is okay and you just have a connection problem similar to what I had.

In any event on my 99 Venture the blower motor is very easy to access. Open the rear hatch. On the left side is an the auxillary electrical outlet. Remove the cover. Remove the plate that holds the outlet by prying it off and you will see the blower motor. My probelm was with the connector itself. Wiggle it and see if the blower staarts.
