Re: automatic to manual switch

Are you gonna buy a brand new tranny or a used rebuilt one? I think I found in a magazine a company selling new Tremec 6-sp for $1999. Its the same as they put in vipers (if that means anything to you).
Labor charges aren't gonna be cheap, but you'l' have to ask around your area for quotes. I know most places charge $400-$600 just for a header install.

Good Luck.

Re: automatic to manual switch

realistically, your better off selling your current car and buying a factory 6 speed one as the conversion cost will most likely come close to, if not exceed the value of the car. but you can find a used tranny for a fairly good price (i've seen my local yards sell t56's for between 500 and 1000 bucks). then you have to factor in installation costs, unless you are gonna tackle that on your own.

Re: automatic to manual switch

an auto never misses a shift, and always get a perfect shift, and with a high stall torque converter it will take off WAY faster. And in a stick will will not always get a perfect shift and you will miss a shift sometimes.

Re: automatic to manual switch

that is what a high stall torque converter does. it takes off alot faster. A auto with a shift kit and gear and a high stall will smoke any stick.

Re: automatic to manual switch

Agreed, an auto eats stick if set up right, from a dig. From high rolls, like on the street, I would have to tip my hat to the manual (more gears and closer gearing).
But an auto with the proper stall will launch harder than a manual with the same setup.
