1995 Bonny backfires stalls runs like heck

OK this monster that I now call Christine had a fuel pump problem finally figured out that the fuel pump ground was no good fixed it, I am sure I have strong fuel... Need to measure pressure, has fire but will cough and sputter at idle to 3000 RPM, then takes off like a rocket, and sounds good. Dropped the exhaust this morning but it didn't help. Runs very rough or not at all even with the exhaust dropped. From reading this forum I replaced the crank position sensor from my previous engine that threw a rod, no help so I put the old one back in... May consider actually putting a new crank position sensor. I have 2 throttle bodies, one from a 2000 so I could do that. Spark is good.
I had an engine ground problem ealier, but got that fixed.
This is officially driving me nuts, but I won't give up till I get it fixed!!!

being a 95 model, it requires a special adaptor to pull the codes. do you have a CEL on?

Thanks for the reply there are no check engine lights, but I do have a local shop with the correct code reader if it would only run there. I hate to tow!!

Remove and clean the IAC valve and it's bore in the throttle body. It could be clogged or stuck with carbon deposits.

Re: 1995 Bonny backfires stalls runs like heck

I have replaced this engine, and throughly cleaned the throttle body ... fully removed it, but I do have a spare throttle body, was thinking this may be the issue. Thanks for all the help... Let you know how throttle body replacement goes.
Also am buying new crank position sensor and cam position sensor.

Re: 1995 Bonny backfires stalls runs like heck

OK replaced throttle body with no help checked the wire to the crank position sensor, and it has good ground changed the crank position sensor, and cam sensor just to make sure. Checked fuel pressure, and it was about 15 psi I just replaced the fuel pump, so I checked the pressure just down stream of a new fuel filter still 15 PSi, dropping the tank again is not my idea of fun but what ever it takes.

Try disconnecting the vacuum line at the fuel pressure regulator and look for gas. If the regulator is bad, it can bleed off fuel pressure.

Confiremed fuel pressure at the Fuel filter with home made adapter, pressure was 15, then dropped the tank replaced pump and confirmed the pressure with exact same gage, and adapter. The pressure was around 55 PSI, Can't wait to reinstall tank and see if Christine will run.

Re: 1995 Bonny backfires stalls runs like heck

Found Problem!! The real problem was 2 the No. 86 wire on the fuse box lost ground... fuel pump gray wire was not hot... second problem was the brand new fuel pump I put in the car only put out 16 PSI, second new fuel pump was 50 PSI in front of the fuel filter. Fired up car put back all the wiring and life is good car runs terrific. The new cam and crank position sensor was just an act of throwing away money, and time.
