loud noise HELP

I have a 97 z24 cavalier 5spd. It works good but tonight a loud noise has been coming from upfront. It sounds like a veloci raptor dinosaur. It only does it around 3 grand and up.
Any ideas?

Re: loud noise HELP

i think you might be either looking at a wheel bearing or an output bearing in the tranny

Re: loud noise HELP

yes you can, and yes it can be
also, if it was the wheel bearing, you'd notice it at a certain speed (mph) and higher, not a certain rpm

your problem shouldnt be TOO serious if its only at 3000rpms and higher, since you can get around quite easily staying below 3000

lately now to think of it while taking turns the left side squeaked lightly. could this noise be a wheel bearing?

Re: loud noise HELP

no, not a squeak, it'd be more of a grind, a very bad sounding grind, and that faster you go, the louder it would get
