I think the whole Camaro/Firebird = mullet thing came for the fact that Camaros and mullets were both popular in the 80’s. I mean how often have you seen a Camaro owner with a mullet today or even in the late 90’s.

This gives me an idea for a poll.

I guess the percentage of Redneck Camaro owns would depend on your definition of what a Redneck is.

If you mean racist asshole then no there aren’t many.

Me I think of a Redneck as someone that lives in the county works on his Camaro in his yard and likes to do donuts in the local Wal-Mart parking lot. And I don’t think having a mullet is part of being a Redneck.

Being a racist has nothing to do with being a redneck. Anyone who classifies rednecks as being racist, is a generalist and is just as bad.

Re: Best. Camaro. Song. EVER!!!

I have to admit (especially from being from NY) I don't like the term and have only heard it used in negative context. So while I love doing burn outs and love working on my car (despite not being able to find the energy to do it lately) I prefer people not call me that. Might be a down south or middle of the country thing that a city person like myself wouldn't get but not a fan of the word (whatever it is suppose to mean).

around here, redneck just means a country person with a trashy house and cars on blocks in the yard, someone who wears jorts(jean shorts), etc. in my understanding, its more of a joking term than a derogatory one.

Re: Best. Camaro. Song. EVER!!!

Redneck isn’t an inherently offensive term since it’s just referring to the sunburn you get from having a job where you work outside all-day. Well I guess in the class warfare context it could still be see as offensive.

Re: Best. Camaro. Song. EVER!!!

Like I said, it was most likely in the context in which I heard it used most likely but I don't take the term Yankee or the local term to Jersey of Benny's (which is based on New Yorkers coming into Jersey) as being offensive to me but that might be cause I haven't heard some use it to me directly or someone I saw in a way to make it offensive.

There was actually a thread on the subject of the word Redneck and how it was used in the political forum about a year or so ago that I took part in and apparently I was not the only one who thought the term was offensive so it must be a North East thing maybe.

Re: Best. Camaro. Song. EVER!!!

I guess it must be a regional thing. I have never heard the name Yankee used outside of a negative context. Many people around where I live take being called a Redneck a compliment, even if it wasn't meant to be I've even seen people go as far as rolling their old truck off the side of a mountain and video tape it so that they can have the reputation of a Redneck, but I've got a different name for them.

But to get back on topic I sold my old white and red camaro to Grizzly Adams with a mullet.
