Running Temp
I was riding in my friends JGC the other day and noticed his running temp was way lower than mine, mine is around 215 and his was in the 100s, is this normal for my jeep? 2000 JGC I6 4.0L

Re: Running Temp
Your friend should change the t-stat. It is probably stuck open and will eventually slip closed and cause the engine to over heat. Both gauges should read 200 degrees.

Re: Running Temp
Before you change the stat - check to make sure that you have a good indicating system. Check the temp at the coolant reservoir (carefully bleed the pressure off first) when up to temp with a thermometer (candy, espresso, meat, etc) to make sure you don't have a bad temp sender or gauge. You should be reading 195 degrees for a 4.0L.

Re: Running Temp
Your friend could have a cooler t-stat in his jeep. I am currently running at 150 degrees (I run a 160 degree t-stat).
Alot of people say that the normal operating temp of a jeep is around 210, yea seems normal - but the t-stat is 195 so it should open and close around 195, mine used to be around 210 on the highway then in city driving would go up to 235 - then my radiator side tank blew out and when I replaced the radiator my temp around town immediately dropped to 180 degrees. |
