Gsxr 1000

Just picked up a 04 GSXR1000 for a nice deal, has a few scratches a right side fairing, and a slight bend in the front rim, guy i got it form hit a pot hole an slide the bike out from under him, so far i replaced the rear tire with a better one, new front rim, carbon fiber levers, yoshimura exhaust, K&N air filter. Bout to get a power commander for it also but i gotta get the fairing for it n repaint the bike a nice color my buddy has. Issue is im not sure what i want to do with it, fix it alone or use it as a stunt bike, what do u guys think? worth fixing?

Re: Gsxr 1000

I've had fairly the same predicament, althought the lowered and stretched drag-style setup doesnt interest me personally, the stunt bike with cage and minus front fairing/lights etc does...

But so does modifying a stock bike and keeping everything intact... I guess the only person who can answer your question is yourself, what do you WANT to be doing? how often do you ride? do you need this bike on the road almost 100% of the time? are you willing to put up with spoling the looks and feel of the bike for a stunter-setup? or do you want to spend rather large dollars on improving overall performance?

Content with slapping together a stunter, losing wind protection on highways, risking major damage to YOU and your bike? go ahead!

Cant bring yourself to the thought of dropping your bike for pulling some crazy high-chair wheelie? want to make your bike faster on straights AND corners for the odd track-day? go nuts!

It all just depends on what will float your boat the most good luck mate and whichever choice you make just remember, RIDE HARD!

Re: Gsxr 1000

this is probably going to sound rude but its not meant to be.

do you know about bikes?

seems like you don't know enough to be wanting to work a gixer thou.

anyone who knows bikes enough to handle a gixer would know about gear changes. anyone into stunts can find a cage builder. theres an ad in the back of one of our local mags.

extended swingarm? now its drags racing.

did you just get this to add to your collection of vehicles?

Re: Gsxr 1000

well the extended swing arm is for drag racing if i wanna go that direction along with lowering it, but im leaning more into stunt bike, see the issue is its a 1000, if it were a 600 or 750 id b like stunt all the way but being the size it makes a great bike to race with n i cant decide...

Re: Gsxr 1000

ok so back to the start. (hey i'm australian)

you have a gixer which you have basically repaired back to street condition but you want to go

a) into full on stunting which will require a cage, gearing, 12 o'clock bar etc
b) street/track racing which will require not much apart from what you listed
c) drag racing. which will require suspension mods and extended swing arm.

i'm still thinking how much experience you have with each of these. (also i wish i had the dilema of having a gixer 1000 to throw money at.)

why not just have a street bike with wicked gearing (and speedohealer) with usual crash bungs. that way its a stunter and a street/track bike.
if you go full on into one then your really limiting the uses in other areas.

a drag bike won't corner like it used to and a stunter won't be happy down the quarter as much as with the suspension mods.

please tell us how much experience you have.

and what you can do "legally" (the term legally is used loosely) in your area. not much point having a racer in a 35mph area or a stunter with no where to go and fall off safely

I'm guessing this is his first bike and he's not sure what he wants to do!
