grand cherokee reliability
I found this 95 grand cherokee laredo near me with 150k for a great price, and im gonna go see it today and probably bring it home if its in good condition. I have a few questions though, how many miles can i squeeze out of it if i maintain it properly? not sure how the previous owner treated the car he claims its in very good condition.
Secondly, are there any grand cherokee specific problems i should look for? my dad knows alot about cars in general so he'll know how to check the basic stuff but he doesn't know anything about jeeps. Third, how do i tell if its a 4.0l or a 5.2l? |

Re: grand cherokee reliability
The 4.0l is an Inline 6 cyl and the 5.2l is a V8.
They look obviously different and they sound (exhaust) different too. Just hearing it start should tell you what is under the hood. The factory target lifespan for the vehicle is 150K miles. The Jeep is right at the margin that is considered worn out. You may well get another 150K miles out of it or you may get eaten alive by all of the parts that tend to wear out. If it is an old guy that claims he took good care of it, take it with a grain of salt. My Father-in-Law claims to be a mechanic (on the side) and would claim that he takes great care of his cars. That is why he has 4 broke down cars in his driveway and one that barely runs. It isn't for lack of money either since he makes $100K a year, it's just his perception. Jeeps get the "death wobble", have brake problems, have u-joint and transfer case (especialy the "full time" 4wd) problems, engine sensor problems, suspension problems and various other problems. You can look forward to getting a good one and never have a problem or someone's "bottomless money pit". |
