help finding check/purge valve on 99 jimmy

I was hoping you all could help me find the check/purge valve ( I have heard it called both) it is part of the evap system. I was told it was on top of the gas tank. Any help would be great thanks.

It's ontop of the gas tank and on my 98 the tank had to be completely dropped to access it unfortunately.

thanks for the reply canukgmc I did find it but i did not have to remove the tank. It was right at the front edge of the tank so i reached up around the rear end and changed it. After i was don't the service light came on but after i drove it for 3 blocks or so it went out. thanks again

Hmm figures I got scammed by those SOBs at the stealership. When I first bought my truck the check eng came on and I didn't have an OBDII so I sent it to them and they told me the purge valve was finished and they needed to drop the tank, since I hate doing fuel work other than filters (dangerous) I told them to do it, all 400$ worth in labor. Glad you didn't get scammed like I did.

Sorry to hear about that. I got the valve from gm for 25 canadian. I asked my girlfirends parents nabour who works in a local shop and he said he knows that the trucks have the valve on top of the tank.Maybe they changed from year to year it's hard to say.

Possibly, the stealership I dealt with was VERY crooked. In fact I had them do 2 things on my truck that I didn't want to do, due to safety (one dealt with airbags, second was the gas tank), and both times I got my truck back with the wallet emptied out and a host of "mysteriously appearing" problems shortly after them touching it. I'm glad I don't deal there anymore, 100% crooked, I do 99% of my own work, the 1% I get done usually involves a con artist dealer\shop or some idiot breaking more stuff than he fixes, that's why I do 99% of my own work.
