Problems with my scooter "Carburator I think"
Guys,
I am new to having a moped, so I turn to you pros for an answer to my promblem. I have a scooter which happen to have a carburator. When I ride it sometimes i loose power even though my engine idles. Unfortunatelly it only idles, (and struggles doing so I might add), after the loss of power only for (5-10 seconds). After that the engine cuts out altogether. It takes time for me to restart the scooter after that happenes (the starter spins but the engine wont fire). Almost feels like i overflooded the carburator (my big assumption that thats what happenes) Did anyone have simular experiance before or perhaps knows what I should do to fix the problem. Thank you for your time. |

Re: Problems with my scooter "Carburator I think"
It really sounds more like the needle valve that meters the fuel coming in gets stuck in a position where it can't deliver enough fuel for open throttle running, so it bogs down, and then will idle on what's left in the carb until that's depleted, then dies...
After some time sitting, enough fuel manages to squeeze by and fill the bowl again, and it starts and runs once again...if it was flooding, you'd smell it, and you'd be able to start it by holding the throttle wide open and cranking it...it would also run fine if you held it wide open when it started acting up, but run rough and refuse to idle for long with the throttle closed... Is this thing a 2 stroke? If so, you can try using some Marvel Mystery Oil in the proper ratio instead of two stroke oil, it will clean the needle and seat nicely if that's the problem...it's also possible that a seriously restricted exhaust port could cause what you have, if it's a two stroke...pressure and temps increase as it chokes up until it won't run any farther...cooling down will allow it to start again... Make sure any inlet screen in the carb or fuel line/tank isn't clogging up also, that'll do what you describe as well... |
