Exclamation Impala rear light cover

The back of my 2001 Impala LS is a maroon and has swirl marks all over it. Ive seen impala's with silver covering it, almost like a decal or such. I was wondering of anyone know a way to make it black.

Re: Impala rear light cover

They are tail light covers. and you have a couple of choices.....

1. vinyl - VERY VERY ahrd to install, even if you are a veteran with working with vinyl. I suggest dont do this.

2. Take them to a autobody shop and have them paint them, either black, or the same color as your car, so they amtch (like the silvers ones you saw on that silver LS)

3. On ebay, there is a seller "Wizard_Rockford" He sells the covers themselves. The tail light covers are from GM, they are held on my double stick tape. Wizard_Rockford gets the GM rejects (They ahve SMALL defects and GM rejects them, but you will NOT be able to see what is wrong with them) He sells them at a VERY VERY cheap price. they run from about $70 - $110. Shipping will be slow (2-3 weeks) and he states that in his auctions. If you were to go to the dealership to buy these same covers, you would spend about $1000, no joke. It's like $5?? for the center piece, and like $3?? for each tail light piece, so ebay is your best option.

Re: Impala rear light cover

I have seen many Impala's with this problem. It looks like the back tail light
covers were washed, then dry'd with sand paper. Mine has this problem as well.
Does anyone know if the guy wizard_rockford guy's metal tail light covers are easier to install than the vinyl ones? or if there are any other places that sell them?

Re: Impala rear light cover

They aqre not metal, they are plastic, and they are the same ones you find at the dealership, so if you want to pay $600+ for them, go to the dealership.

The covers are much easier to install compared to vinyl, even the pros have trouble installing the vinyl covers on our tail lights.

Re: Impala rear light cover

Well, working with vinyl is difficult to begin with, respectively. then you add all the curves and bends associated with the tail lights, and your just going to get creases and wrinkles and a horrible outcome.

Like I said, even the pros that deal with vinyl everyday (including a vinyl shop owner I know) say that it's very hard to get them on right, plus with those curves and heat gun is needed, which shrinks the vinyl, and shinking too much and yada yada.... you can see where it gets tough.

Re: Impala rear light cover

Hello all,
OK, I bought the covers for my custom 2002 Impala.....they are fantastic add ons, and a local body shop only charged me $50 bucks to color match the paint....they are the exact ones used on the SS model Impala....for those needing to know if you have not priced them GM says the inner panel is almost $500 bucks and the ends are about $150 each side....at a young time I bought two sets from Wizard for $180.....if your actually looking for the technical terminology they are called rear tail-light appliques....hope that helps....
