30K - Service for 2005 Ford Focus ZX4

Hi,

Can I do the 30K service for my car? This is what the book requires

1. Change engine oil and replace oil filter - Done

2. Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums, brake lines & hoses, parking brake - Done my dealer due to brake noise

3. Inspect engine cooling system and hoses

4. Inspect exhaust system and heat shields

5. Inspect steering linkage, suspension, and if equipped driveshaft and ball joints

6. Inspect tires for wear and rotate - Done by dealer

7. Replace engine air filter - Done by me

8. Replace fuel filter* - I can do it

9. Replace cabin air filter, if equipped - Don't have one

10. Inspect automatic transmission fluid level, if equipped with dipstick - Done

So as you can see I can replace the fuel filter for $20.00 and would have done all the replacement service. So why do I need to pay $300 to have a 30K service done by a professional? Most places I looked up charge 2 hours of labor.

Thx

you don't.

it's just a catch to get you in there and they can try to sucker you out of some money.

you won't void your warrenty by doing work yourself. atleast I've never heard of it happening. I use to do ton's of work on my car and took it in for a few warrenty fixes and nothing was said.

Ok, Thx for the advice. I'll replace the fuel filter anyway. Doesn't make a real difference in california, since the gas here has enough stuff in it to clean yout toliet.

Thx

your warranty can be voided if for example your transmission fails and its said to have been caused by lack of maintance and you can't proof that you did it or that you used the correct kind of fluid then you're going to end up forking out some cash for that tranny and labor. remember that a drain and fill is not the same as an actual trans flush.

I always bring my car to a dealer if it is under warranty... Even for oil change... At least they have a record (I also keep my receipts) if something fails...

because it has to be done by a certified mechanic, not a back yard mechanic or it void ur warranty if something goes wrong, that's how they get ya, i know i have to have a radiator flush and a transmission flush done yet, that's about 250.

as long as its done and you have some sort of proof your warranty won't be voided, its doesn't have to be a certified mechanic. even at most dealerships the lube guys are not certified.

You can do the work yourself and buy any parts you want to to complete the work, just keep proof.

A law was passed to make this possible, it is called

THE MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT

Google it if you want validation
