I was talking to an owner of a Mustang GT who admitted getting beat by a Camaro...

He said the Camaro was a 1997 and the owner said he had a LS1. I told the Mustang owner that the 1993-1997 Camaros and Trans Ams have the LT1 motor while the 1998-2002 Camaros and Trans Ams have the LS1.

My question is, was the LS1 engine a option to 1997 Camaros and Trans Ams or does the Mustang owner not know what he was talking about? In the end it doesn't matter because a 5.7 LT1 OR LS1 will smoke a Mustang 4.6 or 5.0...

The LS-1 was an option on the Vetts I beleive. I don't see why the owner of the Camaro could not have done a swap to an LS-1 or maybe a special order from the factory. But no the LS-1 did not come in the 93-97 maros.

97 Camaro was a LT1 or 3.8 (only stock options) 97 Vette was a LS1, not a engine option, thats what it came with standard.

So if someone had the money they could not have one from the factory with a LS-1 if they ordered it that way in 97?

I doubt the factory would do that. I could see a speed shop or something buying camaro's and ls1s and switching them though.

Actually, when the C5 was first released in 1997, the early ones had the LT1. I bet you in a few years those will bring big bucks.
