HELP! Suburban bumper parts
I am the original owner of a 1990 Suburban.
We were recently involved in a rear-end accident. Rear bumper was slightly pushed in. Since it had been straightened and re-chromed at least twice before, I think the metal is overworked - the last time this was done it didn't really come back straight. So I am getting a new chrome bumper. This bumper is unique to '88 through '91 topline R/V series Sub and Blazers. The problem is not in getting the chrome bumper, but the rubber step pad that covers the top and a couple of inches of the bumper face all the way across. GM parts ran out of these some time ago. Does anyone have an NOS pad? Or does some firm offer a refurbishing service as is available for dashes, armrests, etc.? Or is there an aftermarket bumper for this application? Anybody? |

Re: HELP! Suburban bumper parts
Thanks, guys.
Looked at both online catalogs above. One had a "ghost" picture of it on the rear bumper page but no part number or price. I have a new $400 USA bumper en route, will have to restore the old pad as best I can and reinstall unless SOMEBODY FINDS ONE OF THESE! |

Re: HELP! Suburban bumper parts
My body shop manager came up with a good interim solution. He repairs the holes and rips in the pad with a flexible plastic filler (as used on Endura painted bumpers on '60's-'70's GTOs and Firebirds). Then he shoots it with his all-purpose satin black "trim spray" (works on metal, plastic, even rubber weatherstripping).
