Thumbs down 2002 Camaro Rearend noise

I have a 2002 , V6, automatic that each time you accelarate you get a noise from the rear end that roars like a race car rearend. Is this normal? The noise has been there every since I first drove the car and it seems no worst, no better, no changes at all. You could call the noise a whining noise, sounds like a jet taking off noise. Not a clunking or banging or grinding noise just whining. Help me out.

No and only reason not is because like I said the noise has never changed for the better or worst. I would imagine it would have gotten worst over the years if the gear grease had been bad. What do you think?

Well, a few unkown factors:

How long have you owned the car? I know you elaborated 'over the years'

How often is it driven?

Re: 2002 Camaro Rearend noise

I have had the car since 2003, the dealership told me it was a normal car noise. Well now I am getting ready to sell it and I want confirmation this is a regular Camaro noise and I will pass this along. I have gotten use to over the years, so it does not bother me but others it will.
The car is driven 3 or 4 times a month. The car now has 97,000 miles on it is why we are selling it. My wife use to drive it to the south side of Atlanta from North Georgia daily. That was about 125 miles one way x 5 days a week sometimes 6 so the miles added up quickly, then she bought another vehicle and got transfered closier to home and now we neither drive the car that much just because we do not want to add anymore to the mileage, because everyone says once over 100,000 miles the price will drop, no matter if it is gold plated. But anyway back to the noise, like I said since the car was new it has made that noise, has not changed.

Re: 2002 Camaro Rearend noise

Some noise is/can be concidered as normal. If it's made it this far long withou any change or hint of problems, I would apply the old philosophy 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' you know..

The larger the gear, the more noise it will make, but there will always be some type of noise out of a live axle rear end.
