Olds 98 blows fuse and dies on road repeatedly.
Greetings:
For the past few months, my 1995 Oldsmobile 98 Regency Elite has been suddenly dying on the road when stopping or turning. The car immediately loses power, but the electrical system (lights, radio) is intact; however, the car cannot be restarted. The incidence is random and has occured both after four hours of highway driving and four minutes of city driving. Evidently, there is a fuse located under the glovebox which is on the circuit with the fuel pump and the ignition control. Simply replacing the 30 amp fuse allows the car to run like nothing ever happened, yet within weeks or even minutes, the car dies in the same manner as before. I am in no way an expert in automobiles, and have taken the vehicle to the mechanics--three different mechanics over 5 different incidents. The mechanics have all been baffled at the problem. The fuse is clearly blown in the manner of a dead short; however, after replacing wire after wire and checking for lose parts, nothing can be found. My Olds has been at the local shop for the past four weeks. I picked it up last week, but it did not make the 15 minute drive back home and had to be towed back to the shop.
In summary, regardless of distance travelled or vehicle temperature, the stall always happens when some kind of inertial force acts on the car, causing a sudden short and blowing the 30 amp fuse. Wires have been replaced, yet the problem is still recurrent.
I would appreciate any help or comments. Thank you.
