97 locked in park, no power to fuel pump

97 with 107K. Acting wierd, thought it was a bad ground. Cleaned the cables and ground wires. Then it would start and run but died and wouldn't restart. Thought it was the fuel pump and dropped the tank. No power to the fuel pump.

Checked and number 4 fuse to the guages has no power and number 10, ECM ignition has no power. ECM battery has power. Won't come out of park now.

When all this started it was draining the battery, now it isn't.

weired is right, do you have a security system or a remote starter?

Re: 97 locked in park, no power to fuel pump

The vehicle was used when we purchased it, but there is no remote start and we have not seen any add-on security system of any sort. I wondered if it was a factory security thing.

My 98 conversion van will lock the doors if it thinks it's being stolen, which is a major pain if you have left the keys in it.

That sounds like a loose connection problem since so many things are being affected..

does your ignition key have a black chip in it right between the end of the cut part and the handle? that's the GM PASS key-2 security system.

The only key it had when we got it is plain silver, probably a duplicate. No black chip on it anywhere. Sorry about that, I appreciate your help anyway.

Thanks Chris, that looks like my problem. We will be getting a new ignition switch.
