Smile 98 AM GT Question

Hey,
I'm new to the Forum world. I just have a quick question. I just bought a 98 Grand Am GT. Everything is great with it. No problems...yet! it has 81,000 miles on it. V-6 3.1 Litre. It just has one little quark that I wanted to maybe figure out. Sometimes when I start it, it idles funny it like bounces up and down and it sounds rough... then once you put it in gear and go its fine. its only done it twice so far. No lights are on nothing. Just idles funny sometimes.? Any thoughts. I don't think its a major issue. It runs great otherwise. The last person took good care of her.

Re: 98 AM GT Question

Welcome to AF !

this place is a great soarse for help

Might check you Idle air control(IAC) its on the throttle bodys right side.
Two torque screws hold it in(its kind round shaped).
Pulls out, dont push or turn the pionted tip that'll mess it up.
It and the pocket it sets in can be cleaned with TB cleaner if they are black with carbon deposits.

Also check or replace your PCV vavle,
its on the front vavle cover to the right,
has a tube connected to it that runs over the TB.

THis should clear up the rough idle and keep it from getting worse.
