del sol stock exhaust help

hello,

I have 97 del sol. My exhaust is too loud and my girlfriend does not like it. I have removed the back of seat (plastic part) to put 2 10"s there. It is even louder. I already have like AEM intake and other stuff done to the car. I am thinking about just changing my exhaust. Currently, I have dual rectangular exhaust system (i forgot what the hell it was). I was browsing and found stock catback exhausts. and there were two different models for 93-95 models and 96-97 models. All i can find on local ads are 93 exhausts. I dont know if it is safe to use it or even fit in my sol. there was about 5 hp slight increase between 95 and 96. Anyone know about the exhaust system change? and would it hurt my car if i change my exhaust?

They are the same and as long as you don't use anything more restrictive than stock, your car will be fine.

Re: del sol stock exhaust help

Actually, they aren't the same. The DOHC VTEC model got the 2" piping that the integra GSR and type R got.. the S and Si models got 1.75" exhausts. As far as bolting in, they are all the same. The VTEC model will give you a bit better flow, and the VTEC muffler is a bit bigger than the S and Si model, so it is quieter (The B series motor is, in its nature, a louder motor, so honda gave the cars that came with it a bigger muffler to try to counterbalance the increased noise).

If you like the way your exhaust looks/want to quiet it down the semi cheaper way, have an exhaust shop weld in a couple of resonators. They'll quiet it down a little.. not a lot, though.

To answer your question in the most basic form, YES. Any exhaust from any year/model del Sol will bolt up.
