Angry 2000 Sunfire GT Sunroof Problem!

I own a 2000 Sunfire GT and lately as the temperature has been going above 0 i've been opening my sunroof. Anyway the other day when i went to open it, it poped okay (like just the back going up) but when i press the button again it only slides back like a quater of the way then stops. Even if i hold down the button it only goes a quater back then stops, and will only close after that. somdays it does it then works a few hours later, but right now it just won't work. Does anyone know what could be wrong, or what i should do? I've checked the runners and it doesn't look like there's anything in there to stop it. I really don't wanna go to the dealer cuz they have a habbit of ripping me off. If anyone has some advice please feel free to dispense it.
Thanks

What's strange is like a few days after the problem started i got my dad to take a look and he told me to open the cover so the motor doesn't have to push the cover back as well as the roof, and go figure it worked. As for my motor it sounds just fine, but it is a little strained when it has to push back the cover. hope this helps.

Sunroof problem

I have a 1999 Z24 with the same problem. The first time the roof failed to open all the way was in 2002. The car had about 50,000km on it and I never close the sunshade. It is a reoccurring problem. Its happened about 4 or 5 times since then and I use the roof almost everyday in the summer. I don't know why it happens, but it never acts up for long. Its never lasted more than a few hours for me.
