FPR Return Hose Pressure?

Anybody know the highest pressure the FPR fuel return hose sees? I don't have a clamp on it, and want to know if it will stay on under pressure. It seems pretty snug right now. Thanks.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: FPR Return Hose Pressure?

ha did you just connect your fuel rails? Well i bearly have my claped on it since it kinda broke on me. ive had the car on and there apper to be no leaks on it. it will be wise to get it clamped on. Maybe highest psi is 40. thats just a guess for a EFI

I am guessing if the FPR fails open the return line might see the fuel rail pressure momentarily... So it really depends on the size of the fuel pump... But the worst case senario really the interior cross section of the hose (I'm being lazy and saying 1/4"x1/4") times max injector pressure... say about 70 PSI... Which is roughly 4.4 pounds...

Does it take more then 4 pounds of force to pull off?

Re: FPR Return Hose Pressure?

Yeah I think it's secure. I'm running the stock pump not even hot-wired currently. The ghetto pinch-style stock clamp that was on it got destroyed over the last few times I've pulled my rails and injectors, and I couldn't find a substitute in my garage..so I was just wondering. It's a low pressure line, so I never even thought it would see full fuel rail pressure. I think I'm good, but I'll get a new clamp anyway.

You know what is funny...

I was reading and evidently those "ghetto pinch-style clamps" from an engineering standpoint are better then the screw type clamps because they are self-adjusting and therefore maintenance free (The screw types clamps need to be checked because the hose material compresses which lets the clamp become loose).

Ever since I read that I have become protective of those spring clamps since I can't find them in the aftermarket...

Re: FPR Return Hose Pressure?

That is funny, because I've switched out a few. I hate the things. The smaller ones in the engine bay are impossible to pinch and move with your fingers, so I always try and fit a pair of needle nose pliers in to get them, but...what can you do in some spots.

The smaller ones? There is only 1 fuel return line.......

Smaller of those pinch-style hose clamps. There are more than 1, quite a few vacuum lines had them. Off the top of my head I know there was one off the nipple of the y-pipe. Also a larger one on the driver side plenum, clutch boost hose IIRC.

ahh, the clamps on the vac hoses, yeah they are designed to be clamped with regular plyers strait on.
