Smile 97 Lumina - air conditioner

Hi All - question about the AC on my Lumina...
It blows cold air but when accelerating the air barely blows out of the vents..as soon as I let off the gas, it's seems fine.

Any ideas?

also, when I put the fan on 3 it makes a whirring noise and at 4, my God, forget it, it sounds like it wants to come out of the dash...

Any more ideas?

Thanks for your help!! Much appreciated.

Pinched vaccum line, probably under the battery area. Been there.

Yep, check the vacuum lines to the ball vacuum resevoir on the driver's side front fender area under the hood...you might have to move the battery to get to it on yours.

The blower cage noise is not normal, but is typical. Costs more to fix than just dealing with it.

Was it the vacuum line that caused your problem? I am having the same problem and was just curious if this fixed yours. Thanks.

Re: 97 Lumina - air conditioner

While you're checking the lines to the ball resivoir, look for the vacuum check valve in the vacuum line somewhere between the area of the master cylinder and the battery. Remove it from the line, try to blow thru it both ways - - should only flow one way. They go bad a lot.

The blower noise is proabaly leaves in the cage. Remove the three 7mm screws, pull it out and have a look. We live in the woods, and mine does that about once a year. If no leaves/trash, look for the cage to be cracked (spreads open and gets out of balance - the faster you spin it, the worse it gets)
