My owners manual gives me a simple image of where to locate the cooling system drain valves. I easily located on the base of the radiator, but the manual shows another one on the base of the engine which I have yet to locate. Does anyone have a picture to show me where it is? I've already drained the radiator so I need to find the other drain plug before I refill the system. I don't want to mistakingly drain the transmission or transaxle fluids. Thanks for any help.

Re: 1990 Camry 3S-FE Coolant Flush Help
Disconnecting the lower radiator hose should accomplish the same thing. Make sure you set the heater control to full hot so the fluid in the heater coil will have a path out. If my memory is correct the plug is on the block near the oil filter.

Re: 1990 Camry 3S-FE Coolant Flush Help
By heater control, you mean the a/c heat control tab in the cab or some other control mechanism? Thanks for your help

Re: 1990 Camry 3S-FE Coolant Flush Help
Yes, the normal temperature switch on the control panel. It opens and closes a valve that lets hot coolant enter the heater coil, giving you heat. The valve is in the engine compartment in-line with the heater hose near the firewall. They mention setting the switch to full hot here: http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBr...3d8013df2b.jsp

don't even bother with trying to remove the coolant drain valve on the engine. it's a pain in the ass to get to and "very little coolant" comes out. I removed the drain valve on the engine of my 1982 toyota tercel I owned years ago. it wasn't worth the trouble. just flush the system a few times with water then put the proper amount of water/coolant mixture in the radiator.take care, JOET/CAMRY |
