engins and gearboxes on a '79 impala
Hi,
I have a problem to decide wich gear box should i match with the new engine of my impala. My old engine is a 4.1L ,6 in- line, with a GM350 gear box. My new engine is a v8 5.0L with what i belive is a GM200 gear box (is there any visual way to confirm it?) , that come off a 79 chevy caprice. My question is, what is the difference bitween the GM350, and the GM200 (if thats what it is) gearboxes, and wich one of them is the better match for the V8? thank you, Dima. |

Re: engins and gearboxes on a '79 impala
The TH350 is a much better trans as far as durability. The V-8 may have been available with the TH200-4R overdrive auto, but for durability, I'd go with the TH350. The old TH200 metric was not designed to handle the torque of a V-8, and would be marginally dependable at best.
