adding an amp and a sub

2005 Odyssey EXL R/N. Has anyone added an amp and a sub (not the one honda sells)to the factory head unit? I really want to keep the "factory" look but want cleaner/louder sound system. Thanks

Re: adding an amp and a sub

I am not an audio expert, but I remember reading that the problem you may have is that Honda tunes the frequency response to the crappy OEM speakers. Adding an amp and sub may make the sournd worse as a result.

One manufacturer is marketing a device that connects btwn the OEM head unit and the amp and corrects the frequency response. I haven't tried it so can't vouch for it.

Re: adding an amp and a sub

thanks kixo, I was able to add an amp and a sub and it sounds better. I did changed the rear speaker but had to put the factory back on b/c like you said honda tunes the frequency response to the crappy OEM and it did sounded worse.
