Oil in Grand Am Coolant

My friend just bought a 1996 Pontiac Grand Am GT, 3.1 V6 and now he has oil in the coolant reservoir. The coolant system was flushed the same day he bought the car and now it is almost black. The only thing he has done to the car since he bought it is a new catalytic converter. What could this be?

Welcome to AF!

Sounds like your friends car has a intake manifold leak.
Hopfully its not a head gasket

The 3.1s and 3.4s are known to blow these LIM gaskets.

Re: Oil in Grand Am Coolant

the design of the intake gasgets is crap on the 3.1s. I just did mine...took me 3 days.

I would start there, and if it doesn't look like that was the cause you can just keep tearing it down.
