2000 ZTS...lost key..deales charging $160.00 need option?????Is this true??

Not sure if this year model has a chip in the key...I've seem a chiped key and the one I had did not have the gray chip on top...Can someone please let me know if a 2000 ZTS needs this type of key....if so....is there a cheaper way to do it????

You are screwed if you lost the key. The Dealer will have to make 2 new keys, erase the old code, and reprogram both keys. Price seems about right.

There is no other way around this.

Unless you have a connection somewhere at the dealership, I've lost keys in my service bays and had them cut from VIN codes.

Sure! You can cut a key with the VIN#, but Ford uses a PATS anti-theft system. Cut all the keys you want

Keys are expensive, and must be programmed with the Ford tools.

tis sad but true your car will not work without the key coded at a ford dealer even if it is cut just cause it fit it will not work without being coded

Check with your insurance company. Your comprehensive coverage may cover part of the bill.
